What is IPL?

IPL or Intense Pulsed Light is a technology used by cosmetic and medical practitioners to perform various skin treatments for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes, including hair removal and photo-rejuvenation. A test patch and consultation must occur 24 hours or longer prior to any IPL treatment. There is a $40 test patch fee which is redeemable upon your first treatment should you choose to go ahead with the IPL treatment. IPL is not suited for people with very pigmented skin types or Fitzpatrick skin type 6.

Is it Safe?

treatments do have a few minor side effects including slight redness of the skin, swelling and a sensation of soreness or sunburn, however these symptoms generally only last a day or two.  Occasionally there can be some slight pigment change, which can make the treated area either darker or lighter, though this generally occurs in darker skin tones and should fade within a few weeks.

Some medications such as some antihistamines, antidepressants, antibiotics and contraceptives, for example, are light sensitive so make sure your clinician is fully informed.

Pigmentation Treatment

Skin Pigmentation is caused by a variety to reasons such as ageing and exposure to sunlight. Pigmentation treatment using IPL can be a fast and effective way to get your skin looking clearer again. Great results can be achieved in as little as 2 - 4 treatments depending on the type pigmentation to be treated. 

The treatment will feel much like any other IPL treatment; a quick flick of light on the skin. This causes the pigmentation in the skin to darken and will often form a red ring around the spots post treatment, your skin may have a sensation of sunburn which will dissipate shortly. A topical cooling gel or ice pack(s) are able to be used to aid this process. If follow up treatments are needed these would occur at monthly intervals.

Spider Vein Treatment

Spider Veins are characterised as thin red, purple or blue vessels in a twisted pattern close to the skins surface and can be very visible, appearing on the legs chest and face. There are many causes for Spider Veins to appear but can often be easily treated. We offer IPL as a treatment for this. skin with spider veinsHeat from the light causes the blood to coagulate in the vessel and becomes dead, in the following weeks the body will naturally clear away the vessel leaving you with clearer skin.
Treatment intervals are 7 - 14 days apart. Superficial red thread capillaries might need 2 - 4 treatments, whereas darker capillaries are more inclined to need 4. Recovery time will vary from person to person but you should expect the capillary to darker and brown and eventually clear away naturally in the skin.

Skin Rejuvenation

IPL Skin Rejuvenation is a great way to get your skin looking plumped up, vibrant and healthy looking. The light energy from the IPL burst of light heats the water in the skin causing minor vaporisation. This small trauma to the skin causes the skin to react by producing collagen and elastin that helps treat tired skin, pores, fine lines and loss of elasticity. The treatment is a short burst of light that feels like a sharp warm flick on the skin which post-treatment feels like a minor sunburn.handsome smooth man
It is important to try to keep the skin cool post-treatment and the use of topical aloe vera gels or ice packs can aid in this process. Follow up treatments can be performed monthly as required, we recommend a series of 3 treatments to get your skin looking its youthful best.

Poikiloderma

Poikiloderma is a skin condition that consists of areas of hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, telangiectasias and atrophy. Poikiloderma is most frequently seen on the chest or the neck, characterised by red coloured pigment on the skin that is commonly associated with sun damage.
Treatment will feel like a quick flash of light on the skin. The after effects should be a darkening or brightening of the redness of the treated skin and a sensation of sunburn. Heat will be released in the process and it is important to try and cool the area down post treatment. Topical cooling lotions like aloe vera or ice packs can help with this and Follow up treatments and occur once the skin has calmed down after 7 - 14 days.
$100 per treatment. Recommended 4 treatments, 1 per 7 - 14 days for up to 4 sessions.

  • A test patch is compulsory 24/48 hours or longer before any IPL course and is $40 - refunded upon your first treatment
  • All areas to be treated must she shaved 24 – 48 hours prior to treatments.
  • Late arrivals may have their appointment cancelled or rescheduled. 
  • All treatments are performed by a male clinician
  • Treatments need to be cancelled or rescheduled with 24 hours notice or will incur a 50% of the bookings cost, fee.
  • Treatments will not be performed on the following skin conditions: sunburn, sores, blisters, Cuts, Irritations, Allergies, Dermatitis, Recently waxed or Generally unhealthy skin.
  • Client and technician must always wear protective eyewear.
  • Fitzpatrick Skin Type test must be completed and consultation form filled in and discussed.
